Elmarie Nelson

January 19, 1933 — December 4, 2020

Goodland, KS

Elmarie Nelson, lifelong resident of Goodland, Kansas, passed away on December 4, 2020.

Elmarie Lasley was born on January 19, 1933 to Wilmer and Francis Lasley in Goodland, Kansas.  She was raised by her grandmother.  She attended schools in Goodland and graduated from Sherman County Community High School.  On November 11, 1951, Elmarie married Carl Nelson.  They had 2 daughters, Carla and Aline.

Elmarie helped her husband with farming, and worked at Montgomery Wards, Sears, Great Western Sugar Factory, Sherman County Extension Office, and Northwest Kansas Medical Center.

The Nelsons supported the Sherman county 4-H programs when their daughters and nephews were members.  They continued their support for over 50 years.

Elmarie was a wonderful cook and enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting.  She loved music and sang in the church choir and Sweet Adeline’s Barbershop Chorus.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and EHU.  Fortunately, Elmarie and her husband were able to travel abroad and throughout the United States during their senior years.

Elmarie was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, and brother.  She is survived by her husband, Carl, and their daughters, Carla (Milt) Richter, Aline (Reg) Phillips; 4 grandchildren, Shawn (Katie) Phillips, Dru (Kelly) Phillips, Amber (Andy) Edwards, Erin (Trevor) Schoonover; and 5 great grandchildren.

Due to the current health crises, a private graveside service and burial will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 for the immediate family at the Goodland Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held on a later date at the First United Methodist Church.
