Beverly Hurd

October 16, 1935 — December 9, 2019

Goodland, KS

Beverly Elaine Hawks was born on October 16, 1935 to Henry and Pearl Branick Hawks.  She graduated from Goodland High School in 1953.  She was one of the top students in her class.

She married Dean Barnes in March of 1953.  To this union two children were born, Sheryl Davis and Curtis Barnes.

In 1981, after being a widow for two years, she met and married Curtis Hurd.  To this union 3 young women were added to the family, Curtis’ three daughters: Debra Rogan, Lisa Hoffman and Cynthia Todd.  Beverly accepted Curtis’s children as her own, as Curtis had accepted Beverly’s children, Sheryl and Curtis, as his own.

Beverly and Curtis had many happy years of marriage.  They lacked less than two months of being married for 39 years.

Throughout Beverly’s life, she worked at Mulheim’s Jewelry, Handy’s Chevrolet and the Goodland Regional Medical Center.  She also drove school bus for several years.  Beverly retired as head bookkeeper of the Goodland Regional Medical Center after 30 plus years.  She loved her job so much, she actually returned to work after retirement to help out for another year.

Beverly Loved making dolls and other crafts throughout the years.  Curtis and Beverly also shared in a craft store venture for a short time.  Beverly was a great cook; she loved to bake and fix wonderful meals.

Her children and her grandchildren were her life. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother.  She will be sadly missed by her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother Richard Hawks and his wife Lois.

Surviving family members include her husband Curtis of Goodland, daughter Sheryl Davis of Colby, KS, son Curtis Barnes of Omaha, NE, daughter Debra Rogan (Don Jr.) of Costa Rica, daughter Lisa Hoffman (Joe) of Goodland, KS and daughter Cynthia Todd (Brent) of Lexington, NC.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister Margie Bovier of Prairie Grove, AK and one brother David Hawks (Linda) of Yreka, CA.
